“Horizon Europe” is the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for the period 2021–2027. The programme’s goal is to strengthen the EU’s scientific and technological base, including by developing solutions to achieve the EU’s policy priorities, such as the green and digital transitions. The Programme also contributes to achieving sustainable development goals and boosts competitiveness and growth. It is the EU’s leading initiative for supporting research and innovation—from concept to market implementation.

STRUCTURE OF HORIZON EUROPE
The budget of “Horizon Europe” for the period 2021-2027 is 95.5 billion euros, distributed across the three main pillars of the Program:
PILLAR 1 “EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE”
The first pillar of “Horizon Europe” strengthens the EU’s leadership in science by promoting the development of high-quality knowledge and skills. This includes the European Research Council and the “Marie Skłodowska-Curie” actions, which fund mobility, training, and professional development activities for researchers.
PILLAR 2 “GLOBAL CHALLENGES AND EUROPEAN INDUSTRIAL COMPETITIVENESS”
The second pillar supports scientific research and innovations addressing societal challenges and industrial technologies in areas such as healthcare, digital technologies, climate, energy, mobility, civil security, food, and natural resources.
PILLAR 3 “INNOVATIVE EUROPE”
The third pillar of “Horizon Europe” focuses on developing innovations through the European Innovation Council (EIC) – the largest EU initiative supporting breakthrough and deep-tech innovations with potential strategic importance in terms of economic or social impact.
